From time to time in this blog, we will be sharing patients’ stories that reflect the level of relationship and care you can expect to receive at Quality Care Chiropractic. This installment showcases Jean, a 79-year-old woman who keeps her active and intense gardening passion alive with the help of ongoing maintenance care from Drs. Rick and Jennifer Gross.
Despite her multiple health issues, each day Jean continues working long hours outdoors in the beautiful and elaborate garden at St. Paul Lutheran Church & School. Even at 79, her passion and service to the faith community—which includes constant weeding, digging, and heavy lifting to maintain the gardens and landscaping at the church—is made possible because of chiropractic care.
Referred to Quality Care Chiropractic by her daughter, who is also a patient, Jean started coming in 2004 and has been a patient ever since. “Now Jean’s grandsons and great-grandchildren see us as well for their chiropractic care,” relates Dr. Rick Gross.
Jean first ending up coming to Quality Care Chiropractic because her chronic low back and leg pain was getting worse even after consulting with her primary doctor, an orthopedic specialist, and another chiropractor.
With the treatments she has received at Quality Care Chiropractic, Dr. Gross says, “We have been keeping her moving despite her chronic back pain and degeneration in the low back, neck, and hands.”
“I’ve been coming for 14 years, so it’s good stuff,” she says of her experience at Quality Care Chiropractic. She admits there have been ups and downs, but with working outdoors and gardening and digging a lot, she finds it essential to be on a maintenance schedule of one to two adjustments a month so she can continue to do what she loves most.
But it’s not always just maintenance, notes Dr. Gross. “Recently we applied new, innovative hand and shoulder adjustments, and her arthritic hands are almost pain free for the first time in years.”
When asked what she would tell people if they were considering seeing a chiropractor, she says, “Please, please try it! If it doesn’t work for you, that’s one thing. But give it a chance. Don’t let the wives’ tales keep you from the door. Give it a go!”

Dr. Rick Gross
I have found that being a doctor is so rewarding because every single day I see miracles happen in front of my very eyes. If I stick to basic principles, I notice the best results. I focus on effective, research-based therapies. I recommend only the therapies I believe my patients need, and only for as many treatments as I believe they need. I keep up with current research and educational seminars to improve techniques and treatments. I treat each person in my office like I would treat my own family – with respect, compassion, and understanding. When conflicts or problems arise, I expect honest, open communication to resolve any issues, and I promise to do my best to ensure satisfaction. I never take for granted the trust I have earned from my patients.
